STEPHEN ALLAIRE: Most veterans have no idea that they can qualify for
these benefits. My experience as a veteran and as a long time elder
law attorney is that I know what the requirements for eligibility
are, I can help the family with their assets and their income to
figure out a path to gain those benefits.
The reason that the cases can get complex with Veterans
Administration benefits is because the requirements for the
veteran's benefits are different from the Medicaid or other
Connecticut Home Care benefits. And trying to get them eligible for
all of the programs requires careful planning.
The way we work with you to find a solution to getting the benefits
for home care is to figure out what your personal circumstances are
and then compare that to what the eligibility requirements are.

STEPHEN ALLAIRE: Both for Veterans Administration and for Medicaid and
for Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders. One of the greatest
benefits that veterans can qualify for is called Aid and Attendance.
And if they need help at home, the veteran can get up to $1,554 a
month. And if there's a widow of a veteran, that widow can get up
to $998 per month for care at home.

STEPHEN ALLAIRE: If you are a veteran or a widow of a veteran, you may
qualify for some of these programs. So it's important to call, find
out what you might be able to do and to set about getting those
benefits.
